British music legends Squeeze have been overwhelmed by the generosity of concert goers attending their current UK tour. Founder members Glenn Tilbrook and Chris Difford have been inviting audience members to bring food donations to the shows on their Difford And Tilbrook Songbook Tour. Food donated at the venues is collected and distributed to the nearest Trussell Trust food bank.
Ahead of the tour lead singer and guitarist Glenn Tilbrook explained how tour was aiming to raise food, funds and awareness for the Trussell Trust network of food banks. “We are putting up multiple collection points and have a dedicated worker to collect everything that is brought to the shows and give them to local food bank charities.

“This came about after I did some touring earlier in the year and had Trussell Trust collection points. It was humbling to meet the people involved in making the food banks work. It’s a situation that’s becoming increasingly difficult for people and I feel ashamed that we’re in this situation where they’re needed but the Trussell Trust do such a magnificent job. It could be anyone that falls on times, so thank goodness we have them. The government should help these people out but they’re not.”
The Difford And Tilbrook Songbook Tour was visiting 26 theatres across the UK through October and November 2019, including the City Hall Sheffield on friday 18 October. Phil Wills was the event co-ordinator for Trussell Trust on the Squeeze tour and he was supported, in Sheffield, by Paul and Rebecca Sheridan who were collecting food donations at the concert for the local Burngreave Foodbank.

The kindness shown by so many giving so much is truly both awe inspiring and humbling. A massive thank you and big slobbery kisses from us all, we love you!”
